To live an abundant life that overflows with God’s goodness, the first thing we need to do is be grateful and not complaining. The second thing we need to do is to be content and not comparing. God made you to be you. He doesn’t want you to be anybody else. If we compare ourselves to others, we might get envious and resentful.
But God never made a clone. Even identical twins are different in many ways. Ecclesiastes 4:6 says, “It is better to be content with what little you have. Otherwise, you will always be struggling for more, and that is like chasing the wind.”
Because of social media, it’s easier than ever to compare ourselves to others. We might even try to impress others with our posts. We can experience envy and discontentment. But we don’t have to impress anyone but God. A key to living a life overflowing with joy is to just be yourself, content with who God made you to be.
Do you ever feel overwhelmed? Do you want to be spiritually and emotionally healthy? Proverbs 14:30 says, “It is healthy to be content, but envy can eat you up.” (CEV) Contentment comes when we enjoy what we have rather than waiting for something else to make us happy. Let’s not compare ourselves to other people, but be content with what God has given us – and then watch our joy overflow!
