This is the first part of a two-part series on the simple act of saying something that is very simple, but simply profound. It’s the act of saying what we were supposed to learn as children, thank you. Let’s begin in the Old Testament.
King Jehoshaphat took an uncommon approach when his enemies waged war against him. 2 Chronicles 20:21 reads, “After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising Him for His holy splendor. This is what they sang, “Give thanks to the Lord; His faithful love endures forever.”
Notice the results in verses 22-24, “At the very moment they began to sign and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. The armies of Moab and Ammon turned against the allies of Mount Seir and killed every one of them. After they had destroyed the army of Seir, they began attacking each other. So when the army of Judah arrived at the located point in the wilderness, all they saw were dead bodies lying on the ground as far as they could see. Not a single one of the enemy had escaped.”
Good things happen when we prioritize thanking and praising God. It’s a simple lesson, but as I said, simply profound. Whatever is going on in your life, choose to thank God anyway and see what happens.
