A Word For Today: Friday, September 11, 2026

There’s nothing in our life that we can’t learn from it if we’ll just respond with the right attitude. Instead of saying, “God, why is this happening to me?” let’s learn to say, “God, what do you want me to learn from this?” Many situations in life will make us either bitter or better. It’s our choice. We can choose how to respond to it.

Every problem can have a purpose and that purpose can help us grow spiritually and become more like Jesus. Philippians 2:5 says, “In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus.” (ICB) What is Jesus Christ like and therefore what are we Christians supposed to be like? Like Christ, we want to exhibit the fruits of the Spirit. Paul in Galatians 5:22-23 wrote that the fruits of the Spirit are, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” That describes Christ and Christians. Like Christ, these are qualities that God wants to build in our life. He wants our life to be overflowing with the fruits of the Spirit as mentioned above.

He’ll teach us love by loving us and asking us to love others. He’ll teach us joy not by giving us everything we want, but by showing us that in adversity and grief, He is still enough. He’ll teach us a “peace that surpasses all understanding.” This can go on and on. 2 Corinthians 3:18 reads, “As the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like Him.” As Christians, may we become more like Christ by exhibiting the fruits of the Spirit.

In Christ, Rev. David Edgar
