Where is God when I feel lonely? The Surgeon General has said that one of the greatest problems in our country today is loneliness. We can be lonely in a crowd. So many are solitarily focused on their cell phones. But no matter what we’re facing this day, week, month, or year, we’re not alone. God is in us, with us, and for us.
First, God is working in us. The word “working” in Greek is the word “energeo,” from which we get our word “energy.” Philippians 2:13 says, “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.” (NLT)
Second, God is working with us. Jesus said in John 14:18: 20, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you … On that day you will realize that I am with the Father, and you are with Me, and I with you.” (NIV) We’re hidden with Jesus Christ.
Third, God is working for us. Do you sometimes feel the smile of God? Rick Warren wrote in his book, “The Purpose Driven Life” that the smile of God is the goal of life and what makes God smile is worship. Aren’t you glad you go to church when you can? Unfortunately, some people think God is like an angry parent who’s mad all the time. No, that’s not true. God is for you in more ways than you could ever imagine.
As a Christian, we can get up each day and say, “God, thank You for being in me, with me, and for me.” Not everyone can say that so let’s be sure and thank Him every day for His presence in and with and for us.
Yours In Christ,
Rev. David Edgar
