Yesterday I wrote about some Biblical characters whose circumstances led them to listen to God. Let’s continue today with some that are not quite so dramatic. Acts 8:26-40 tells the story of Philip the Evangelist’s encounter with an Ethiopian official. According to verse 29, “The Holy Spirit said to Philip, ‘Go over and walk along beside the carriage.’” (NLT) Philip followed the Spirit’s prompting and led the Ethiopian officer to Christ.

Over two thousand years later, God still works through circumstances involving other people. I’ve heard “good sermon. It was like you were talking to me.” I’ve also heard God speaking to me through people like you. I’ve had people address a situation I was going through, even though that person probably didn’t know of my circumstances. I can still remember and quote Judy Adams saying, “Assume the best until you know otherwise.”

Another friend was Janice Martin who simply said, “PUSH.” Then she gave me a pin with those letters on it and told me they stood for, “Pray Until Something Happens.” I wore that pin and prayed and something wonderful happened. They were using circumstances for God to speak to me through them. Maybe that’s what all of us need to be is available for God to speak to others through us. Sometimes the right circumstance just arrives and other times we just need to listen to God and then speak. It’s so good to be used by Him for someone else.
